Some songs wave goodbye. This one stands on the dock and calls somebody back in.

Camp Bedford are a Brooklyn folk-rock trio built on three-part harmonies, the kind of singing that only works when three people are listening to each other as hard as they are singing. If your ears live anywhere near the Trio and boygenius corner of the record store, you are their people, and "Ships in the Night" is a fine place to meet them.

The song was written after a run-in with a former friend at a bar, the first sighting in a long time, and it carries that exact charge: gladness, regret, and a door left open. In the band's own words:

❝

"Ships in the Night" was written after running into a former friend for the first time at a bar, and fantasizing about what it would be like to reconnect. Maintaining a relationship with someone who seems eternally 'lost at sea' can feel impossible, and this song is a final plea to bring them back to land and back to you. "Ships" is upbeat and approachable; we want it to invite you in and make it feel possible to confront the demons that are holding you back.

Six-String Travels is proud to premiere the video today, a day before the single lands everywhere.

That is the band in their element. Three voices braided together, nothing flashy, just the song and the person it is trying to bring back to shore.

Ed's take: The chorus is catchy, the kind of melody that gets stuck in your head and rides along with you all day. The harmonies are sweet, and it did not take two listens before we added it to the playlist here in the office.

"Ships in the Night" is out everywhere tomorrow, Friday, October 30. It previews the band's EP, Polaroids on Your Wall, out Friday, December 11.

Give it a watch, then come back and tell us what you hear. Does that chorus stick with you the way it stuck with us?
